College Relations

As a core leadership area of the chapter, INSHRM is devoted to partnering with local colleges and students as part of the mission to further professional development. INSHRM has partnered with several over the years including Gonzaga University, University of Idaho, Eastern Washington University, Whitworth University and others in our area. We are always looking to develop new partnerships with schools and students.

Are you a college student who is interested in a career in Human Resources? Here's what you can do to learn more about the profession and prepare yourself for a career in HR:

  • Attend an INSHRM event. Events are a great way to network with HR professionals and to learn more about relevant HR topics.

  • Complete an internship in the field of HR. Network with INSHRM members to identify internship opportunities or to find a mentor in the HR field.

  • Join SHRM as a student. SHRM membership will provide you with access to a wealth of exclusive HR resources.

  • Once a SHRM member, apply for a SHRM Foundation Scholarship to help supplement the cost of your education.

  • Once you have gained experience in the field, get certified as a Certified Professional with SHRM. Many employers desire certification when hiring.


What can you do as a Human Resources Professional to support college students whom are seeking a career in Human Resources?

  • Provide a hands-on paid or non-paid internship at your organization

  • Become a mentor to a college student working towards a career in Human Resources

  • Consider a college student for a community-based project
